I’m a total sucker for comic book movies. Don’t matter how awful it looks, or how bad I know it’s going to be, you can bet I’ll generally be there opening day to see it when it comes out… cause I’m a geek. I don’t like Iron Man at all… but I’m dying to see this movie now. I think Thor is a stupid as hell comic and an even dumber idea for a movie… but after seeing Matthew Vaughn direct “Stardust” I’m all for seeing what he does with the character now. Eventually, I usually come around. But Doctor Strange?
Our friends over at IESB have this news for us:
The full length animated feature of Doctor Strange was officially released by Marvel today and the IESB is able to exclusively reveal that a live action Doctor Strange is currently in development. Marvel has started taking the property around town and pitching it to potential directors. While we can’t confirm if a script has been completed or even commissioned, it’s rumored to be written by an unnamed writer.
This would actually be pretty consistent with the pattern Marvel has shown recently. The Iron Man animated movies came out first… now the live action movie is in development… the Doctor Strange animated film is out now… so I guess it was just a matter of time.
But Doctor Strange? Really? I’ve got no opinion of Strange either way since I’ve read VERY little with him in it. I have no clue if he’s a great character or dumb one. HOWEVER… who the hell is Doctor Strange? Will the general, non-comic book fan, movie going audience member have any interest in this character? Personally, I highly doubt it… but who knows right?
So for those of you who know anything about Doctor Strange… what do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?
