A Jack And The Beanstalk Movie

BeanstalkGood grief, this sounds horrible. I love the idea of talking classic fairy-tales and getting a director to bring it to a screen in narrative form with his or her own slant or interpretation of it. It’s risky, but could ultimately be pretty rewarding to watch. So when I first heard that they were looking at doing a film version of Jack and the Beanstalk, I was interested… UNTIL…

The good folks over at M&C give us the following:

Colin Ford has been cast as the lead in a retelling of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk.’ Variety reports the new version will follow the young Jack, a rather wimpy child who has to perform a heroic task or be booted out of Fairytale school.

What the hell? So if I’m reading that correctly… what we aren’t getting is the actual classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk… but rather some “Shrek”ified rendition of it? Jack is a whimpy kid who goes to Fairytale school? Oh great… another one of these. Count me out.
