Next summer is shaping up to have a couple of heavy comic book movie hitters. Iron Man, Batman and Hulk are already primed to go, but it looks like Fox wants in on the party and is aiming to have Wolverine ready to launch too.
The good folks over at JoBlo give us this:
Fox is keen to get WOLVERINE’s solo flick in theaters for next summer, even though clawed Aussie Hugh Jackman will be filming Baz Luhrmann’s epic romance AUSTRALIA until this October. Apparently the studio wants to fast-track the partial-prequel and get Jackman back in adamantium and ready to slice right after he’s done with the song-and-dance.
Yikes. By next summer? Really? Ok, lets look at this a little objectively here. This is possible technically. If they already have a script they like… then there is nothing in the world stopping Fox from starting pre-production on Wolverine before October, and there’s also nothing stopping them from starting filming (the stuff that doesn’t have Jackman in it) before October either. Just because Jackman can’t be there till October doesn’t mean they can’t start. And Jackman’s scenes would probably take about a month to 6 weeks to shoot. So yeah… it is POSSIBLE. HOWEVER….
As much as I’m looking forward to a Wolverine film, next summer is already kinda full for Comic Book genre films isn’t it? It strikes me as a bit unwise to race to get Wolverine onto an already crowded dance floor. Why not just put it off like 4 more months and release it in like October or November? Traditionally not BIG box office months… but Wolverine would be the only big game in town.
What do you think? Should Wolverine indeed try to release in summer of 2008, or should they put it off a little?
