It looks like Fox Atomic will be cutting down production on films that involve cutting people. We get the news from thr horror enthusiasts at Bloody Disgusting:
Meeting various development folks around town have led me to some really interesting news. Apparently the ONLY horror film in the works right now over at Fox Atomic is their PG-13 remake of The Entity, which is being directed by Japanese filmmaker Hideo Nakata (The Ring Two, Ringu). What’s even more disappointing is that Fox Atomic had planned on taking the 28 Days Later franchise up until 28 Years Later, which as of this moment, will never happen.
This is bad news for fans of horror films, no doubt about that. When a studio that put out a decent amount of horror films decides that it will no longer do so, a void is created. I am guessing this could be due to the fact that horror films are not making as much money as other projects.
I personally do not find this to be too startling. Horror is an amazing avenue for beginning filmakers to enter into the game. Some of the greatest horror films have ben low budget-high passion slashtastic celebrations of violence. It always sucks when funding is not avaliable, but for those that have stories to tell by hook, or crook often they will be made.
