There are few directors who instantly grab my attention like Guy Ritchie. Lock Stock and Snatch are two of my favorite flicks that showed so much style, pace, humor mixed with terrific multiple intersecting story lines that make sense, that I always walked out of the theater (or from my TV) with huge smile on my face, and always thoroughly enjoying myself. Good news… Ritchie has just singed up 300 star Gerard Butler for his next flick “RocknRolla”
The good folks over at Moviehole give us the following:
Tom Wilkinson, Thandie Newton, Idris Elba and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges have also been cast in the crime caper. Butler stars as a One Two, a street-smart mobster who has learned to play both sides of the fence, and Wilkinson is playing the lethal head mobster, Lenny Cole, part of London’s old mob regime, which is quickly losing ground to the wealthier foreign mob. Newton acts as One Two’s love interest, Stella, an accountant with ties to the underworld, and Elba acts as Mumbles, One Two’s partner. Bridges is playing Roman, an American trying to break into the music scene in London.
Personally, I love the fact that Ritchie is getting back to the London crime scene settings for his next film. He just thrives in there. That’s not to say that it isn’t good to see him try to broaden himself… but since his last project didn’t fair so well… I think it was a wise decision to get back to where he’s comfortable… and the branch out again. Either way, I’m pumped to see this.
