It looks like that Jim Carey/Tim Burton team up I was looking forward to may never happen. We get the scoop from moviehole:
Another stumbling block for the long-gestating “Ripley’s Believe it or not!” movie with Coming Soon reporting that director Tim Burton has quit the picture.
The film stars Jim Carrey as Robert Ripley, a man who embarks on a journey through many countries; learning new things, finding new things and gathering many friends along the way. Later Ripley begins televising a special but later has many health problems to deal with. The film was originally set for a Winter 2008 start, with Burton gone it may be pushed back. Again.
I think alot of people are going to blame Tim Burton for this, claiming that he is an unstable madman. This is simply not fair, Tim Burton is an artist and from what I gather from my sources – he had a very good reason to leave this project. It appears that Tim Burton was called by the Elf king to join them in battle against the moon worshiping gnolls of the enchanted woods. As a long time ally to the elven peoples, it would not be prudent for Mr. Burton to turn his back on them in their time of need.
The situation is complicated further when we learn that Jim Carey is himself a moon worshipper, and although he has no affiliation with the Gnolls of the enchanted woods, he does relate with them on some levels because of their shared love of moon worship. This made the decision easy for Tim Burton, he could not ignore the call battle from the Elf King, nor could he stand to work with a moon worshipper another minute!
It is easy to point fingers and place blame, but what we see here are a few people caught in a 600 year old battle between elves and gnolls. I am not going to say who is right or who is wrong, I just long for the day when elves, gnolls, moonworshipers and sun worshipers can all get along and make a movie about Mr. Ripley.
