Fake Shemp from AICN was lucky enough to see a rough cut of My Name Is Bruce at the CineVegas Film Festival. I have attached an excerpt of his review, but for those of you that would like to read the entire review please check it out at Ain’t It Cool News:
The movie is definitely for any and all Bruce Campbell fans. He’s made his fair share of good and bad movies but don’t worry, this falls into the good category. This will not disappoint his fans. It mixes some rude and crude humor with some slapstick that Bruce was born to do. There is a scene where Bruce is drunk and trying to get into his trailer home and the way he tries to get in and the way he fails is something that seems right out of Sam Raimi and
Bruce’s earlier home movies. If Evil Dead 4 never happens, this is the closest we are going to get to seeing it. The movies’ jokes are for everyone, but there are a lot of inside jokes that only Bruce Campbell fans will get. Oh and I almost forgot one of the hightlights of the film… Ted Raimi. Ted Raimi has 3 roles in the movie and he’s hilarious in all three.
No word is given when the film will be released, but I am glad the review is positive. Bruce Campbell is a man that has the allegiance of his fans like few others. There are a group of people that want to see him in whatever, they just want to see more of him. I can not blame them, I am a fan of Campbell, he is a funny, charismatic actor that sweats personality and exhales machismo wherever he goes.
If you go on to read the entire review by Fake Shemp you will read that Bruce is not involved in the Bubba Ho-Tep sequel at this point. This is a huge WTF? Bruce Campbell as senior Elvis, was amazing and if a sequel is to be made, the people will want to see the return of the King. Mind you his character did die at the end of the first film, but when sequels are made, we are able to suspend belief if people come back to life for one more round.
As much as I am glad that My Name Is Bruce is moving forward, I am shocked about the possibility of no Bruce in the sequel to Bubba Ho-Tep. This is a love/hate news story.
