For those if you looking for the latest news/rumors about Star Trek 11, it looks like we will have to wait for Comic Con. It appears major news will be released at the event; we get the scoop from comingsoon.net:
Things are apparently moving forward quickly with Star Trek XI — IESB.net is reporting that at the L.A. junket for Transformers, screenwriter Roberto Orci told the roundtablers to expect some major announcements (presumably about casting) at this year’s ComicCon. He said the casting process is going on right now, and that some significant decisions are going to be made soon. He also told the journalists that the film is scheduled to begin shooting in November. Up to now, there has been nothing more than educated (and uneducated) guesses about who could possibly lead this thing. Names that have been bandied about include Matt Damon, Gary Sinise, Jennifer Garner and James McAvoy, but nothing solid has developed.
I am reserving excitement about this film. I love Star Trek, but have been really let down by the films with The Next Generation cast. I would prefer to see an Enterprise film rather than revisiting Kirk and Spock in star fleet academy, but I know I am in the minority. I would be game for a full film about tribbles at this point. I hunger for a new take on trek.
With such a broad universe I would like to see them try something new, rather than just rehash previous characters with other actors. So much of the information about this new film has flip – flopped over the past few months that I do not know what to believe anymore. It will be cool to get some news from the horse’s mouth at Comic Con. I am just curious to how they will finish the film by Xmas of this year? I guess we will wait and see.
