Rachel Weisz has landed herself a role in the upcoming Peter Jackson film “The Lovely Bones.” We get the news today from our friends at cinematical:
According to Variety, “Weisz will play the mother of a young girl who is abducted and is feared to have been murdered.” I presume that means she will play Abigail Salmon, the mother of Susie, the young girl who narrates the novel from heaven. For those unfamiliar with the book, it’s about the young Susie (who is raped, murdered and dismembered) in heaven, as she watches her friends and family cope with her death and go about their lives. There are no other cast for the film that DreamWorks picked up in May, but there should be more soon, as production is set to begin this October in Pennsylvania and New Zealand.
The Lovely Bones sounds like a film that will turn on the taps of emotion in powerful ways. I have not read the book, nor will I, because it is not my thing. I will see the film however, because I am a fan of Peter Jackson, I will have to talk about it on Uncut, and because I, on occasion, enjoy a good cry.
After LOTR and King Kong, Lovely Bones will be a lot more low key for Jackson. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for him. I am curious to see if he will delve back into Horror films.
