It looks like Tobin Bell is going to become the fabled crossroads devil-dealer. We get the nefarious news from Variety:
Tobin Bell, best known for portraying Jigsaw in the “Saw” films, has signed to play the Devil in and exec produce “Highway 61” for British financier Halcyon Pictures and Utah-based Prankster Film Co.
Project, written and directed by Luke and Jeremy Jackson, chronicles a struggling rock group whose manager arranges a meeting with the Devil at the Crossroads, the intersection in Mississippi made famous by blues icon Robert Johnson. Nick Thune (“License to Wed”) stars as the lead guitarist.
I love the fables about the crossroads. I am pumped to see another film being made about the crossroads and hope one day it becomes as popular a genre as zombies. I plan to go to the crossroads myself one day, drive down from Canada in a kick ass road trip. If I meet the devil, you can bet your ass a deal will be made.
Tobin Bell is a decent choice for the devil. With appropriate attire and perhaps a delightfully iconic goatee, I think he would look quite devious. It is a killer score for him and I wonder if this fellow is going to start to establish himself as a modern horror icon akin to Robert England. If you can get alot of horor gigs, and become beloved by fans you are set as far as work is concerned.
