Since Disney’s recent purchase of LucasFilm and the announcement of a Star Wars film in 2015, there has been quite a bit of coverage along with speculation. My biggest question is in regards to the plot of the next film and how much time will have passed since episode VI. If the decision is made to include some of the original cast, Harrison Ford has already expressed interest in reprising his role as Han Solo.
“Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he’s upbeat about it, all three of them are,” said one highly placed source, referring to Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher, the trio that made a hyper-speed jump to global fame on May 25, 1977, the opening night for George Lucas’s original Star Wars film.
Harrison Ford is in great shape for being 70 years old but the film will most likely be set much further into the future for him to have a role in the film. He has expressed his disdain for the character in the past, so it is interesting to see that he is open to the role along with Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. I would think that he would want his character to die based on the fact that he was for the death of Han Solo in episode VI. As much as I would like to see the original cast in the film, I think it should be a more short lived appearance and possibly passing the torch to a new cast. Too much time has passed to properly tell the story of the episode VII that I wanted to see.
