The Simpsons About To Hit 400th Episode

On the threshold of its feature film, The Simpsons are about to hit another milestone. On Sunday, The Simpsons will hit its 400th episdoe. 400 freaking episodes. The folks over at USA Today have this:

With Sunday’s two episodes (Fox, 8 ET/PT), The Simpsons hits 400, a milestone reached by just four other prime-time scripted series. That’s something Homer can drool about. “It’s so hard today to keep something on the air,” says executive producer Al Jean, who runs the day-to-day operation. “It’s immodest, but I think our achievement is unbelievable.”

The only other shows to hit the 400 mark are Gunsmoke, Lassie, The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet and Bonanza. Now keep in mind, The Simpsons is on in an age when people have 500 TV stations at their fingertips and uncountable more shows to compete against than any of those other 4 programs. Hitting 400 episodes today is just insane.

Some people think the show has lost some of its quality. I tend to agree… but not much. Of all the animated shows going these days, I still find it the smartest of the bunch. But that’s just me.
