Amy Smart has landed the lead in a film that celebrates the art of dance. We get the scoop from Latino Review:
According to Variety, Amy Smart will topline indie swing dancing project “Love N’ Dancing” opposite Tom Malloy with Robert Iscove (“She’s All That”) directing.
Trick Candle Prods. and Dolger Films plan to begin lensing “Love N’ Dancing” in July in Albuquerque. Producers are Robert Royston, a four-time U.S. Open Swing Dance Champion, and Sylvia Caminer.
Story, penned by Malloy, centers on a bored-with-life English teacher (Smart) who forms a connection with a West Coast Swing dancer and attempts to win the world title while overcoming obstacles presented by her workaholic fiancée and his former dance partner.
I am certainly not involved emotionally to the world of swing dancing. I think most modern dance movies are ridiculous and unwatchable. The genre however has had some gems throughout history. I can watch Fred Astaire tap dance films all day long, and Dirty Dancing was a sultry box office plunderer.
My apathy for swing dancing aside – Amy Smart kicks ass. In everything I have seen her in, good movie or bad movie, she has always done great. She knocked the Crank Chinatown Scene out of the park. I am convinced that this scene will always be remembered as one of the greats in film history. The way she acted out going from prude to whore in under 2 min was hilarious, believable, and titillating.
I do not think the plot of this film sounds appealing, but I am excited to see Smart kick out some dance moves. Time will tell if this dance number will be disappointment or delight.
