Lucky Buggers in the UK look like they will have a kickass exhibit to attend. The largest collection of all things Star Wars has opened in London. We get the news from IMDB:
What is being billed as the biggest Star Wars exhibition ever in the U.K. has opened in London, including costumes of the principal characters, set pieces, and even a “training school” for prospective Jedi knights. The show is opening just weeks away from the 30th anniversary of the premiere of the original Star Wars in the U.S. on May 25, 1977. The exhibition’s opening also occurred on the same day that a survey was released by Britain’s Sky Movies channel doubtfully claiming that Star Wars was the most-watched movie of all time and that half of respondents had watched it more than 20 times.
I would kill for a set of stormtrooper armour, and would cause a fleshwound just to try a set on. Star Wars has the best props/costumes. I love them so much one of the things that pissed me off about the new trilogy was the lack of “man in suit” aliens. CGI characters suck for interaction, and I think a good costume looks less dated than digital effects.
Exhibitions like this are just awesome. They had a Lord Of The Rings exhibition in Toronto a few years back and I kick myself for missing it. To see the detail of the artifacts that helped bring the world to life is of great intrest to me. The more attention to detail – the more immersive the world is and the more you are able to suspend belief and adopt a childlike wonder for the story. The human ability to create other world with our minds and share them with others is one of the great abilities that we have as a species; it is a gift that should be celerated.
