Word on the street is that the Fletch remake is dead in the water. The news comes to us from the marvelous masters of moviehole:
I won’t say the who’s or how’s I got wind of this (only to say its from people in the know), nor can I say its confirmed, but deep within the seating area of a studio coffee shop this morning there’s chatter that The Weinstein’s have cut “Fletch Won” from their upcoming release schedule.
The rumour comes hot on the heels of the announcement that Zach Braff – who many assumed had the role of Irwin ‘Fletch’ Fletcher sewn up – won’t be playing the film’s lead after all. Word is Bill Lawrence has now been informed that “Fletch” is either on hold or isn’t something the studio are interested in pursuing at the moment. I imagine he’s pretty crushed. He would’ve done wonders with this series. Believe me. The man is a talent.
This news brings me great joy. Every day we hear of some remake or another; It is nice to finally report that one is being canceled. Fletch does not need to be remade and I am glad this project has been killed.
For those of you that may of been excited to see this project – I feel for you. It was en route, and then it evaporated. The good news is that you still have a Fame remake to look forward to! (Always try and have a positive outlook; It will make you vulnerable to tyrants.)
This news is still in the rumor stage, no confirmation is available (as far as I know) but it did seem odd when we learned Zach Braff was dropped from the project recently. That news causes me to consider these rumors to make sense. Time (or the Weinsteins) will reveal all.
