The work of the Coen Brothers never ever ceases to amaze me. All their projects seem so simple on the surface… and yet all have a labyrinth of depth behind them when you really stop to look. Films like O Brother Where Art Thou?, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, The Ladykillers (really underrated film)… on and on. Gio will be there opening day for any Coen film.
Their ability to snag solid casts for their films is also amazing. Take a look at this bit of news about their upcoming project from the good folks over at Movieweb:
Academy Award-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen will write, produce, and direct their next two films for Focus Features and Working Title Films. The two projects are A Serious Man and the dark spy comedy Burn After Reading. The latter feature will star Academy Award winners George Clooney and Frances McDormand; Brad Pitt has newly joined the cast, and production is set to begin in late summer.
A couple of Coen veterans and Pitt to boot. Nice. I know nothing about this movie whatsoever… and I already can’t wait to see it!
You know what… now that I think about it… amongst all their amazing movies, I’d have to say that The Ladykillers is still my favorite one. That’s not a knock on Lebowski at all… I love that film too. Maybe I’m just a sucker for the underdog movies. I’ve never understood why more people don’t give this little gem of a movie its due. Fantastic pace, gut bustingly funny, amazing set of characters… if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend you run out and grab it today and check it out.
