Zach Braff is out of Fletch

John-BraffI just flat out LOVE the Fletch movies. For my money, Chevy Chase was never funnier or any better. He was born to play Fletch. No don’t get me wrong. I’m not suggesting that Chase should come back to play Fletch again… I’m just commenting on how much I loved the first films. “Can I borrow your towl”? HAHA!

Anway, it feels like another Fletch film has been in development for as long as The Movie Blog has existed. Way back in the day it was going to be Kevin Smith’s next film. A ton of names started getting thrown around for who the next Fletch would be. Names like Will Smith, Jason Lee (which seemed like the perfect fit when Smith was going to direct it), Ryan Reynolds (who was my personal pic to take on the mantel) and many others.

Then they announced that it was pretty much going to be Zach Braff. Now please understand, I like Zach Braff… very much actually (That’s me with him in the picture)… but I NEVER thought he was the right guy for Fletch. I just didn’t see the fit there. Well, now it seems we don’t have to worry about it since Zach Braff is now OUT of Fletch. The good folks over at Moviehole give us this:

“Zach is writing and directing his own film [‘Open Hearts’] at Paramount,” Lawrence, who’s currently in New York searching for a new Fletch, tells TV Guide. “I’m very happy for him. We were looking forward to doing this thing together, but when you get an opportunity like that, you’ve got to take it.”

I think this is for the best. Zach wasn’t for Fletch, and Fletch wasn’t for Zach. Now, back on the topic of who should should play Fletch… my personl pick is still 100% Ryan Reynolds. I think he just screams Fletch. Still, I’m open to whoever they get… as long as it’s not Chris Tucker or Rob Schneider.
