A lead has been cast in the new Death Race remake – and it is Jason Statham. In the past few years Statham has really been setting himself up as the new go-to action guy; and deservedly so. We get the news from movieweb:
Jason Statham is set to star in the futuristic action remake, Death Race for Universal Pictures, Tom Cruise’s C/W Productions and Paul W.S. Anderson and Jeremy Bolt’s Impact Pictures.
Anderson is also writing and directing the film based on Roger Corman’s 1975 cult classic that starred David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone.
As I have said before, I am a little reserved about this remake. I enjoy the original and am afraid this one will be trash. That being said – I really like Statham as an action star. I think you would be hard pressed to find a guy right now that you would want over him, for a lead in an action film. Now I wonder who the other drivers will be.
Tom Cruise picked this film to produce, and that thrills me on a few levels: My favorite Tom Cruise film was Days Of Thunder – I hope he can bring the same racetrack magic, on this outing as a producer. As a fledgling producer, Tom chose a remake of a movie he is an admitted fan of – he believes in this project like no other man on earth, and that is exciting. Using Scientologist Witchcraft he will force us all to see it through the leading of Scientologist spirits.
