Back a while ago, we found out that Clive Cussler, the author who wrote Sahara, which spawned into a big hollywood film, was suing the makers of the film for not doing it right. He blames them for the flop, and says that if they gave him the rights of approval over certain elements that the movie could have been a bigger hit. Now we catch up to the case and hear some strange news from the mouth of Sahara’s director, Breck Eisner.
The trial has been underway for a while now, and jurors have heard testimony from screenwriters, executives and lawyers about the doomed film’s struggles. The latest in the parade — director Breck Eisner. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he says that he was aware that it had some problems, but knew that he could “nail this film” and had no idea how big the problems were. Not only that, but he thought that this would be the beginning of a film franchise, just like Indiana Jones!
I have said this before. We all know that everyone involved in a film is going to do their best. No one gets signed to do a movie and intentionally holds back. They dive right in and do their best job.
Maybe their best just wasnt good enough. That happens all the time. Halle Berry is often criticized over her role as Catwoman. She still holds to the fact that she LOVED doing the movie. Will she do another one? No, she admits that it stunk, but she gave it her best, and wont torture us with more of it.
So yeah, the director is going to throw his excitement behind the statement. “This is the best movie ever and we are having a blast!” I don’t blame him for getting all behind his project. It isnt just his job to talk good things about it. Its respectable to think the world of what you are doing.
Was it presumptuous to think this could spawn into a legendary series like Indiana Jones? Yeah, maybe a little. But when they made the first Indy movie, would we think poorly of them saying they hoped this turned into a series spanning the next 25 years?
Its perspective.
