Interesting Death Proof news coning out today. It appears that Kurt Russell was not the first choice for stuntman Mike, Rourke and Rhames were ahead of him on the list. My problems with Death Proof aside I think everyone can come together and say that Kurt Russell Kicked major fucking ass in that role. We get the following interview from IMDB:
“I know Mickey was a possibility and he was really close to doing it and I think Ving Rhames was close to doing it too. I think there were a number of actors who were probably close to doing it at different times. That kinda thing doesn’t really bother me and I’m sure there’s a lot of movies I’ve come close to doing, and, for whatever reason, I didn’t and somebody else did it. I’m just glad I got the opportunity to work with Quentin.”
Kurt Russell was the correct choice and I am glad he rose to the top of the list. I can see the other guys in the role, but do not think either of them would of pulled it off as well as Kurt did. My hope is that Death Proof pushes Russell to the top of the list for action films again. He always delivers and seems to be universally loved. Everyone wants more Kurt Russell – please give us some.
