Back in November, I wrote about Nicolas Cage getting in on a comic book movie called the Sadhu.
Self-improvement guru Deepak Chopra is working on the script for “The Sadhu (The Holy Man),” to be directed by Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, said Gotham Chopra, chief creative officer of Virgin Comics. Gotham Chopra is Deepak Chopra’s son.
The film is an adaptation of a comic book series about English soldier James Jensen, who is on the hunt in India for the man who murdered his family.
“Our goal is to start filming in India in early 2008,” Gotham Chopra told The Associated Press.
I am always interested to see comic book franchises coming to film. I am also interested in anything Cage does. And now news that this will be penned by a self help guru, I can only wonder if this will take a unique twist on the classic revenge story.
I haven’t read the comic, but now more than ever I want to seek out this title just to see what kind of story is being put to it. Hopefully they will stick to the source material (my biggest complaint about comic adaptations) and with the CEO of Virgin Comics giving the scripting duties to his own son, I would think there is some consistancy to be found here.
Chopra senior did write the book as well as taking over the CEO position from Sharad Devarajan.
