Warner Bros. has announced they are doing a film based on the DC Comics characters METAL MEN. We get the news and following synopsis from our friends at The Hollywood Reporter:
Mining for new projects, Warner Bros. Pictures is hoping to strike gold with the robotic superhero team “Metal Men,” setting up the project with producer Lauren Shuler Donner. Eric Champnella has been brought on board to write. Based on a DC Comics hero created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru in 1962, “Metal” revolves around a brilliant scientist, William Magnus, and his creations: six highly advanced robots who have powers associated with their respective metals — gold, iron, lead, tin, mercury and platinum. Instead of having to be programed, the Metal Men can think for themselves, which is both their genius and their biggest flaw.
Metal Men are certainly not A-List comic book characters. I have seen their comics in bargain bins but have yet to read one. I however am a fan of turning less than popular comic characters into movie heroes. Blade was an out of left field character that was played masterfully by Snipes, and I still consider it to be an amazing action film at the top of the comic book film genre. In fact Blade could of been the one comic book movie that set the stage for all others to follow (if blade can make money whet will X-Men do?)
As I investigated the wiki page for Metal Men I discovered a short list of their most popular enemies:
-Chemo (a mobile plastic giant filled with various lethal chemicals),
-The robotic alien Missile Men
-The Gas Gang
-Robotic T-Rex
-Robo-Centaur
-Robot-Egg Fu
-The Sizzler
I am at a loss for words to describe how ridiculous/awesome the villains sound. WHO THE FUCK IS ROBOT EGG-FU!!!!! Before today I had no idea how much awesome was absent from my life. I am going to try and get my hands on as many of these comics as I can before this movie comes out. This is the greatest news I have posted about since I started writing for this website. International friends celebrate and rejoyce! The streets are safe once again from Robo-Centaur thanks to the METAL MEN!
