Is Jolie really Wanted?

I’m going on a limb and saying yes. Ask Mark Millar. Or at least you can ask the people responsible for bringing Millar’s graphic novel to film want her. For the film.. er… nevermind, that sounded better in my head.

JoBlo.com reports:

WANTED based on the Mark Millar graphic novel, is set up at Universal with Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy set to star. The film will follow McAvoy as a dweeby young guy who finds out his father was an assassin that was murdered. He is then recruited by the agency his father works for and trained himself to be an assassin.

After all the action movies we have seen Jolie in, to see her in a role as an assassin is hardly a stretch. With all the stuff on her plate already, I can’t understand how Jolie manages to get it all done. Rumour had it that Jolie’s role was going to be written in as the role originally intended for Freeman, the Assassin trainer. But that was squashed fast, and it is now said Jolie will simply star as a fellow assassin from the same agency. The interesting thing is that these assassins are apparently not the “good kind” we are so frequently exposed to in Hollywood films. None of those “for the betterment of humanity” kind of killers here.

Also I mentioned before, I think the Graphic Novel format is an untapped resource. We can only benefit from seeing these quality stories make it to the big screen.

I actually haven’t read Wanted, so I really can’t speak to the story. But I have read a lot of Mark Millar’s comics work, so I can only HOPE that this is half as good as The Authority or Superman Red Son. I just hope they do it right.
