Yes yes yes… we get it… Penguins are hot right now. Still on the heals of last years March of the Penguins (fricking amazing movie that you HAVE to see… I don’t care how boring or dumb you THINK it looks… trust me… you’ll be hooked 15 minutes into it), and then the way over rated “Happy Feet” this past year… here come yet ANOTHER penguin movie. Like Happy Feet, this one if 3D animated too. Surfs Up.

The movie’s introductory sequence even includes material that looks like archival footage of great penguin surfers from the past.Jenkins said directors Ash Brannon and Chris Buck worked from the premise that they were telling a story as if it had been filmed by a reality TV crew. “Our movie is more ‘Spinal Tap’ than tap dancing,” he said, taking a light swipe at last year’s animated penguin movie, “Happy Feet.” “The movie’s killer,” he promised.
It’s bad enough when you get studios making movie after movie with talking animals… but aren’t we going at bit too far when it’s even the SAME fricking animal? Why not use another animal for the surfers? I know this isn’t a good way of thinking… but I’m not even going to bother with this movie. Why not just make another movie about Ants… just make it about a bunch of ants who drink too much and beat up hookers.
