I am a fan of Quentin Tarantino, I enjoy his movies very much but I love him even more for the actors he drafts that have been “shelved” for no good reason. Travolta, Forster, Carradine have all done outstanding jobs in Tarantino films after being called up from the Hollywood farm leagues.
Kurt Russell and Michael Biehn are now set to follow suit in Grindhouse.
Now Kurt Russell may not be as hurting for work as the others were, but I think most will agree that he has not been used like he should for quite some time. Kurt Russell should be an action deity. The fact that he is not in the same action list as Schwarzenegger and Stallone is criminal as far as I am concerned.
A conversation with Jay Cheel and myself began last week about Kurt Russell. Jay pointed out the like-ability of Russell and I whole heartedly agreed. Kurt is macho and yet, you can tell he gives good hugs (and you want one). When I found out Kurt was going to be in Grindhouse I pumped my fist in victory.
Where Kurt has been tapped by Tarantino, Biehn has been tapped by Rodriguez for Grindhouse. Biehn is a dude that has proven himself in Aliens and Terminator and then sold sandwiches for quite some time. The amigos at moviehole have a great article today about his comeback and upcoming work.
It is great to see trusted, beloved, quality gentlemen getting the roles they deserve; in time perhaps the draft will return of Swayze to the A-list, where he belongs.
