In a strategic move to further his career to the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Breckin Meyer, Jason Lee has announced that he will be a supporting actor in a movie about Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Yahoo News says:
“My Name Is Earl” starJason Lee has joined the cast of “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” which begins production later this month ahead of a December 14 release through Fox.
Lee will play the Chipmunks’ dad, Dave Seville, while chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore will be computer-generated. “Alvin” will focus on the trio’s origins as helium-voiced singing sensations. Ross Bagdasarian Jr., the namesake son of the “Chipmunks” creator, will produce, along with his wife, Janice Karman.
I would have thought that someone who Kevin Smith likes so much would be able to score a better role than this. And this right on the tail of voicing another iconic cartoon character – Underdog. (see what I did there.. tail? nevermind..) Which isnt going to be a cartoon dog at all.
Co staring next to CGI giant robots or prehistoric dinosaurs is one thing. But this is just sad. The real stars of this movie will be the Chipmunks. Jason is just there because the adopted dad is a human.
As nostalgic as it will be to revisit the Chipmunks, I don’t see any reason to get all excited about this.
I just want a hulla-hoop.
