Diaz and Barrymore are Old Acquaintences

After the eyecandy parade that was the Charlie’s Angels movies, I am surprised it took this long for Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz to work on something together again. And this time they are serious. They plan to remake a 40s classic Old Acquaintance.

MovieHole.com says

According to Sky News, Barrymore and Diaz will play an evil twosome – Miriam Hpkins and Bette Davis played the roles in the original – in the tale of a novelist who engages in a heated rivalry with a long time friend in both her professional and personal lives.

“We had a ball together on Charlie’s Angels and have been looking for a script ever since. We think this looks great”, Cameron tells the site.

The kneejerk reaction to this news is that we will see this movie as a zany comedy. But I for one see this as a great opportunity to show the range these girls are capable of.

Barrymore is known for her romantic comedies but is actually quite good in dramas as well. Its been a long time since we have seen her in anything deep. Same with Diaz. Aside from the dozens of Shrek projects, and Charlie’s Angels, we have seen many examples of serious roles for her. It should be very cool to see these two playing off each other in a serious role.
