In the grand tradition of “if its not broke, don’t fix it”, we hear the wonder team that got themselves an Oscar are going to team up again. And that’s not all they are doing the same.
Martin Scorsese and William Monahan are going to be working together again. Now we’re hearing that Monahan will be reteaming with The Departed star, Leonardo DiCaprio. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Warner Bros. Pictures has acquired the rights to the Hong Kong thriller Confessions of Pain. Monahan will adapt the film and be on board as an executive producer. DiCaprio is attached to star and will also produce the film.
So Scorsese and Monahan decide to work together again, and of course they take their golden child DiCaprio along for the ride. But wait! What should we make a movie about? I know, lets translate another Asian flick!
Perfect.
Well it worked the first time around, so who is to say it wont go big here? Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think its a bad idea. In fact I think its a wonderful idea. I keep hearing about this vast library of quality Asian films, and the stories are nothing like the Hollywood Movie Factory we are so used to here.
At least this way I can get over my avoidance of READING a movie and still experience quality films. I hope this starts a trend so we can see more of this kind of remake instead of looking forward to the “Welcome Back Kotter” movie.
I just hope that future adaptations are so well done as with The Departed.
