Well, one down and about 20 to go. Besides money and awards, the other thing the movie “Borat” has been collecting is lawsuits filed against it. I’ll admit that I’m a fan of the film, so perhaps my perception is a little biased… but honestly I haven’t seen one single legitimate lawsuit brought against the film yet. They all seem to be pretty unwarranted to me.
Well, despite all the actions brought against Borat to this point… they haven’t suffered any legal defeats yet. And it looks like the stupidest one of all… the drunk frat boys case, has been throw out of court. Yahoo News gives us this:
A Los Angeles judge has granted the studio’s request to scuttle the fraud lawsuit brought by two of the fraternity brothers featured in the Oscar-nominated Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.
While the judge’s decision can be appealed by the two South Carolina men who alleged that they were plied with alcohol before signing the waiver that allowed them to be shown on camera acting like a couple of boors, a ruling based on California’s Anti-Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation statute would nullify all of the plaintiffs’ claims.
Good! I love it when stupid people try to blame others for their own stupidity, and that’s exactly what this situation was. These guys made total asses of themselves, said stupid things that no one made them say… and they KNEW they were being filmed for other people to see. What’s the problem here? Anyway, one of the few times you’ll hear me cheering for a studio.
