Breach is the name of the new film staring Ryan Phillippe, Chris Cooper and Laura Linney and judging from the trailer it is going to be a spectacular film. Judging from the clips however it looks a bit…information laden.
It is based on a true story and it follows FBI upstart Eric O’Neill, who enters into a power game with his boss, Robert Hanssen, an agent who was ultimately convicted of selling secrets to the Soviet Union.
The story is very intriguing but the clips are…dull. All we get from them are exposition. While information is always needed I would have liked to see Cooper in action, or any action, instead we Linney giving Phillippe some instructions on FBI protocol. Hopefully they have just grabbed these clips because all of the rest give too much away.
I’m still interested in seeing the film, but now I’ll probably catch it on a Sunday afternoon instead of a Saturday night. That being said Breach still looks like it could be one of the best political thrillers of the year.
