Well it seems that the love for the FBI is on the decline these days and now the feds have decided to take matters into, not their own hands but Hollywood’s screenwriter’s hands. The kind folks over at cinematical.com give us this:
The FBI held the first in a series of workshops for Hollywood screenwriters to help them create a realistic portrayal of the FBI — as per the FBIs recent request.. America’s distrust in its leaders is steadily rising. A Zogby International study discovered that 75% of Americans trust the “government less than five years ago.” This statistic heightens Hollywood’s responsibility to not portray FBI as fumbling and untrustworthy.
This is a sad commentary on America today. When the FBI sacrifices men to teach screenplay writers how to promote them better you know that the priorities of the Government are going completely in the wrong direction. This to me is like having a lawyer pick up your dry cleaning, or trying to help a person with a gash in their neck by mopping up the blood on the floor; it’s misused resources and energy. Of course Americans think less of the Government than it did 5 years ago! With things like The Patriot Act, weapons of mass distraction, poverty levels high, outsourcing even higher and George Bush brought to you by Mc corporate America this country is in a total identity crisis. People are loosing pride and faith in their Government and they have reason to.
Do movies portray the FBI as stupid? Yes, they do sometimes (this, by the way is a prime example of why the entertainment industry does that). Of course there are some good movies about the FBI as well, many in fact where they are show as heroes Writes tend to write from their own experience and research and if they have experienced good things from the FBI then they say those, if they have heard stories or had a bad experience or are angry with the government in general sometimes the FBI gets the brunt. But like with celebrities they should just realize that this comes with the territory.
I cannot imagine that the FBI instructing writers to use government propaganda is good in the long run for the Government, the entertainment industry or Americans.
I know, I know I should be more careful, because big brother is watching…when he isn’t teaching over in Hollywood.
