Way way way back in November of 2004 I put up this post about the prospects of an new Battlestar Galactica movie based on the ORIGINAL show (not the new, greatest television show of all time, version). Well, the producer for the original, who still holds the rights, Glen A. Larson, seems to be moving ahead with the idea… at least that’s the buzz around the internet right now.
I honestly don’t know if this is legit or not, but let me throw my two cents worth in here. First of all, as I said in 2004, the idea of an ORIGINAL cast (Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch as Starbuck and Apollo) just seems like a bad idea without also having Lorne Green. Green was the patriarch of the show, and if the idea is to do an Original Cast version, without him it would seem empty to me.
Also, lets face facts here. I really loved the old show back in the day. But the new incarnation of Battlestar Galactica is by far so superior to the original, the idea of an original movie just strikes me a sorta silly. Would I be there to see it if they did? Yeah, I’m a Sci-Fi nut… but that’s probably the only thing that would get me there. To me, there is now only one Battlestar Galactica, and it’s ain’t the one with Boxy and some dumb ass robotic dog. Just my two cents worth.
