Mike Myers may be on the comeback, did he go anywhere? Well there was a time when he was picking more interesting roles than The Cat in The Hat and Austin Powers. For a little while he was doing real work, a la 54 and Mystery Alaska. Here’s what moviehole.com has to say about it:
According to The NY Times, Myers is on the comeback trail. He’s still attached to play Keith Moon in a biopic about the famous drummer for ‘The Who’, but more so, he’s got a new character to introduce to the world, an Indian ‘Guru’ character, Pitka. David O’Connor, Mr. Myers’s agent, said there were two completed drafts of the ‘Pitka’ script, advanced discussions with Paramount Pictures and the possibility of sequels. “He’s a love guru,” Mr. O’Connor said of Pitka. “He’s somebody who’s become an expert on relationships. That’s what leads me to think that if it works, it can be a franchise. The guru can be thrust into all kinds of situations in that regard.”
Myers as a relationship guru? Well, heck at this point I’d see him in anything that wasn’t meant for children. I miss the guy. This character doesn’t seem terribly original but he knows how to pull off played roles and give them funny and original spins.
It’s also good news that Myers is officially playing The Who drummer Keith Moon according to imdb.com in the movie See Me Feel Me: Keith Moon, Naked For Your Pleasure. But it isn’t scheduled to come out until 2009. Until then it is all Shrek voice work and no play.
If this is a comeback for Myers, it’s a quiet one not too much on the horizon so far (Pitka isn’t on imdb.com at all yet) but still I wish him luck. I think his best bet on making a lasting comeback is going to be the Keith Moon movie, it sounds like it will be a good mix between the showman’s funny guy we all love and the strong actor that Mike must know he can be.
