We’re being given the opportunity to enjoy a sequel to the 1986 Tom Cruise movie Top Gun. We knew that, but what we didn’t know is anything else about the movie other than Tony Scott’s expressed interest to create a new movie in the world. Today we learn that the X-Men First Class scribes have been handed the reigns to create a script.

Paramount has hired Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who started their careers with Agent Cody Banks and since worked on Thor, Fringe, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Andromeda. They will write the script for producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison, with no official plot details yet.
I didn’t like X-Men First Class nearly as much as most others and thought there was definite room for improvement throughout the movie. It’s completely unfair to judge these guys off that one movie alone, as it suffered a heavily rushed production, but I have a hard time feeling inspired by these guys considering how much I was disappointed in the latest X-flick.
So far Top Gun is not on my radar. At all. If they can somehow convince Tony Scott to be involved in this movie then I’ll take a stronger interest but as it stands this movie is a long way off from that.
