There is a great line near the beginning of the movie “Gladiator” where one of the generals says to Maximus: “Why can’t some people know when they’re conquered” or something like that. Such a phrase could be said about Sony’s attempt to get us to watch movies on a PSP. Remember a little while ago when most studios announced they wouldn’t be making their films for the PSP anymore? Well… Sony can’t seem to take a hint. The good folks over at Cinemablend give us this:
The Hollywood Reporter says Sony Pictures is launching a video-downloading service early in 2007, designed to push the PlayStation Portable as a multimedia all-thing. Third-party downloading services are already in negotiations with Sony to use it, and they’re working on technology to allow movie downloads directly to the PSP.
Dear Sony: GIVE UP!
People don’t want to watch these films on small hand held devices. Oh it’s great to have it as an option if you want… but people DO NOT want to spend $10 on a movie they can only watch on their little tine screens when they’ve got a 30′ plasma sitting over there. Allow people to put their DVDs on these devices so that they become a nice secondary alternative for when on the road… people aren’t going to spend primary dollars for something they’ll probably never even watch… didn’t you learn that by now???
