Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, I remember a time when they were always mentioned together, like Mary Kate and Ashley, and now, the prettier couple will be rejoining to direct. The good folks over at cinemablend.com give us this:
You’d think if teaming up with your best buddy wins you an Oscar, it might be something you’d want to do more than once. Well now, ten years later, Matt and Ben are finally getting back together again.
Entertainment newswire WENN reports that Matt Damon told them, “Ben and I found a project to co-direct that we might be able to get off the ground.” Directing is one thing they haven’t done together. Ben has a little bit of directorial experience. In 1993 he directed an indie called I Killed My Lesbian Wife, Hung Her on a Meat Hook, and Now I Have a Three-Picture Deal at Disney and he’s currently working on a mystery called Gone, Baby Gone. But Damon is a total directing newbie.
There’s something about this that makes me smirk. Just the thought of these two trying to direct together makes me laugh, because I’d much rather see a candid behind the scenes documentary of them trying to do it than the actual film that they make. It isn’t that I don’t think they could do it, hell no one can deny that Good Will Hunting was great film, and I was so happy for them when they won. But that was before the egos, the paychecks, Bennifer and the Borne….whatever.
Yep, I can see the fights now “no, we must backlight it” “natural lighting is fine for this” “but Ben it’s in a basement!”.
Seriously, I am interested in seeing how this film turns out. Because Ben and Matt really do have a good chemistry together. I think it is going to depend a lot on what kind of movie they make, if they are going for the big buck blockbuster then I am not interested. But if they try something that has some real meat to it, and hopefully is low budget then the film could be quite good.
For some reason I think that the lower the costs the better the film with these two, they need to set the egos aside and eat some pasta and hot dogs with the rest of the cast and crew to remend themselves what it is to be a little hungry, because really that is when the creative juice start flowing.
And above all if this movie is to be a success there had better not be any more body suits, tights or super hero costumes on Ben Affleck and Matt Damon must have a normal working brain.
