Its all the popular style recently to do musical star biopics. The Rick James movie is still going to happen even without Dave Chappelle. Rick James is a rollercoaster story about a guy rising above from the ghettos, to superstardom, and the inevitable drug binging. Its who he was. Its his story. But thats not what the movie will be about!
Paramount is still looking to get some type of biopic off the ground. Supposedly, James’ estate didn’t like the Chappelle version either as they weren’t fond of the “rags-to-riches-to-drugs” plot.
Good thing to know that this movie will be about one tiny slice of his life. It lacks anything that makes him interesting or dramatic at all. There is so much more to Rick James that would make a far better story to tell.
So if Chappelle isnt going to be Rick James, who would you think would be good? Or does the focus of this biopic make you even care?
