The MPAA (The Motion Picture Association of America… or as I like to call them, the world largest cabal of idiots) would have you and I believe that internet movie piracy in North America is a rampant out of control problem… that each and everyone of you internet users out there are criminals… they tell congress that we’re all such bad criminals they they need to pass laws to drastically restrict our fair use of media we LEGALLY buy.
John asks the MPAA: “WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN I CAN’T LEGALLY MAKE A BACKUP OF THAT FUCKING $30 DVD I BOUGHT??? What do you mean I can’t put that movie I just paid you for on my iPod so I can watch it on the plane or on my morning commute?”
The MPAA responds: “Well you see, you’re a criminal and we know it. All of you are, So if we say you can put it on your iPod, you’ll put it on everyones iPods, burn 100 copies and sell them on the streets, you’ll start downloading kiddie porn and use your money to fund terrorism. Don’t deny it. We’re going to congress next to make it mandatory to have your memory erased after watching a movie so you’ll have to rent it again… just so you don’t try to re-create the movie in pencil sketch and sell it on the black market”.
Well… according the the IMDB, a new study has been done that shows less than 5% of people download illegal… or even legal movies. Here’s what they have to say:
The study found that of people who watch video on Internet only 5 percent have rented or bought a digital movie download. Even when taking into account those who download bootleg copies of movies, the percentage remains tiny, the study concluded. Most of those surveyed complained about the long wait time involved in downloading movies, the relatively high price charged by the movie sites, the fact that the “extras” that come with the DVD packages are generally not available online, and the difficulty of viewing the downloaded movies on television screens.
But hey… don’t confuse the MPAA with those pesky little things called “facts”. They just want to get more laws passed to force you to spend more money on movies and items you’ve already paid them for. It’s a racket, and they need to be stopped.
