New rumors about Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the lead role in James Cameron’s long suffering project Battle Angel have started to circulate on the internet. There is a new theory of why the movie hasn’t happened yet, and it involves Arnold’s political career. The good folks over at cinemablend.com give us this:
By now everyone knows that James Cameron has decided to make Avatar his next film, while his other project Battle Angel Alita is put on hold. Clint over at Moviehole thinks he knows why.
Austrian Oak fansite TheArnoldFans.com says that Alita has been delayed because James Cameron is waiting on Arnold Schwarzenegger. Cameron knew Arnie might win another term (which he has), and that would have totally screwed up his schedule. They insist that Cameron wants Arnie for the role of the cyborg “Ido” in the movie. So now Alita sits comfortably on a shelf until Arnie is done screwing around with politics and wants to play a cyborg again.
I don’t believe this, James Cameron can’t be obtuse enough to be waiting around for an aging actor turned politician to finish his term so that he can play a cyborg role. No way.
This is simply a rumor, whispered about by fans of Arnold who can’t let go.
I have no desire to ever see Schwarzenegger in a movie again, I liked him back in the day, his in comedic roles were just as much fun to watch as when he was an action hero. But the dude has moved on. And so has most of the world.
If James Cameron had made this eight years ago with Arnold I would have been interested. The idea of the film still sounds good, but not with the Governor of California in it.
It may be that Cameron hasn’t made the film yet because of casting problems. But I highly doubt those problems have anything to do with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
