Paul Walker starring in Hitman reboot as Agent 47

So I saw this news piece the other day where Latino-Review was reporting that Paul Walker somehow is getting another chance in Hollywood to venture outside the Fast and Furious franchise and will take the lead as Agent 47 in an upcoming Hitman film reboot.  Man, you guys would have loved to have  seen the response.  It was all Metal Gear Solid with question marks and exclamation points appearing over our heads and random sound effects causing amazement and concern.  Paul Walker has been around Hollywood for well over a decade but somehow hasn’t cracked the glass ceiling into A or even high-card B star status. He can do it, he just needs to lead a film that makes a boatload of money and The Hitman franchise might be the best chance for him.

Paul Walker will replace Tymothy Olyphant in Agent 47, Fox’s reboot of 2007′s Hitman. The film was scripted by A Good Day To Die Hard‘s Skip Woods and Michael Finch, and is being helmed by commercial director Aleksander Bach.

Mr. 47 is a genetically engineered elite assassin with a barcode tattooed on the back of his head. In the original film, he is hired by a group known only as ‘The Organization’ and is ensnared in a political conspiracy, which finds him pursued by both Interpol and the Russian military as he treks across Russia and Eastern Europe. The film was not well-received by critics, but was a box office hit, grossing $100 million worldwide.

I’m somewhat excited for the news.  If you shave the guys head he’ll have the look but I don’t know what he would be able to bring to the table that Timothy Olyphant didn’t.  The issue with the video game movies are the fact that they have to force themselves into having characteristics of the source material, which is a bitch for the writers.  It’s bad enough with the typical creative constraints but to add that layer of pre-existing expectations for the franchise is just another shot in the foot.  I hate to say it but this film is already facing an uphill battle because it’s not named Resident Evil and that’s the only game based film franchise churning in Hollywood. I’m gonna keep an eye out for more information…
