I commented a while back about the documentary Muderball being turned into a movie. At the time I couldnt recall any other documentaries that were being made into feature films. A couple people showed me that there were a handful. Well to add to that handful it looks like the Weinstein Co. has optioned the rights to Kevin Macdonald’s documentary, My Enemy’s Enemy.
The film chronicles the life of Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie, notes The Hollywood Reporter; it follows it from his history as a Nazi torturer to his recruitment by the U.S. government to work as a counterintelligence officer to the 1987 trial for his World War II atrocities.
This is Godwin’s nightmare come true. Sure there have been movies that use the formula of “bad guy works for those he once fought against for the help of the greater good” but this one trumps them all.
The worst example of badguy we have in modern history are Nazi Torturers. So to look at this guy and try to make him the hero will be a task indeed. Should be interesting to see who they get to direct.
