Premiere Honors Sofia Coppola?!?

Premiere magazine held their annual function where they honored several women for their achievements in the entertainment industry. I think such a ceremony is a great idea. But get this… the people they honored for all their long lists of achievements were Annette Bening, Cate Blanchett, Sally Field, and… are you ready for this…Sofia Coppola?!?!?

Don’t get me wrong here… I’ve got NOTHING against Sofia Coppola… but all those other names have long careers with award winner performances and have achieved almost legendary status. What on earth has Sofia Coppola done? Directed 1 moive. OOoooooo… let’s recognize her for her vast achievements in the industry.

The problem with stuff like this, is that it almost diminishes the honor of the award itself. I mean, come on… how great can the honor be when they also give it to a person who hasn’t done anything in the movie biz except for 1 film of any real note?

I like Sofia Coppola, and I’m interested to see where her career goes and how well her next film, Marie Antoinette, will turn out. But come on… to put her on a stage to celebrate her “achievements” along side such people as Annette Bening, Cate Blanchett, and Sally Field at this point is just dumb. Not yet… maybe later.
