I never once bought into all those “Matt Damon as James T. Kirk” for the new Stark Trek film rumors . It’s not that I don’t think Damon would be a good Kirk, but I’ve always maintained that I see no reason why someone like Matt Damon at this point in his career would join up with a franchise like Star Trek at this point in it’s existence.
Looks like I may have been right. Matt Damon is now denying anyone’s even talked to him about Star Trek at all in any way. He’s not your James T. Kirk. The good folks over at IESB give us this:
So, the question is has Matt Damon been offered the role of James T. Kirk in the upcoming and yet untitled Star Trek 11, has the idea even come across his plate?
Well, today during The Departed press junket in New York, the IESB had the chance to ask Matt exactly that, “Is there any truth to the rumor that J.J. Abrams has approached you to play James T. Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek movie?” Damon was quick to say he hadn’t heard anything about it.
Now with that out of the way, I hope to high heaven that the next bit of news we hear is that the movie WON’T be about a young James Kirk and Mr. Spock. But that’s just my feelings on it and don’t really count worth anything. Unless the “young” idea also entails a total reboot of the franchise like Battlestar Galactica… that could be interesting… but Damon still won’t do it. (Thanks to James for the heads up)
