And you though a gay cowboy movie would be a tough sell. The new movie “The Bubble” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival has opened up. And wow… you wanna talk about guts.. Israeli filmmakers Eytan Fox and Gal Uchovsky are LOADED with them.
Imagine trying to make a movie in which almost everyone will hate you for? Well… they believed in the movie… and made it anyway… and I say fucking right! The movie is about a gay love affair between an Israeli and a Palestinian set in Tel Aviv. The film has an anti-war message. But The Bubble is having a hard time finding it’s audience. For example:
(the film) alienates conservative audiences in Israel and abroad, and European left-wingers angry at Israeli attacks on Lebanon don’t want to see Israeli films at all. And the movie, which has a strong anti-war message, opened in Israel just weeks before the latest Israel-Hizbollah war, and when war started, the cinemas mostly closed.
Wow… that’s a lot of chips stacked against you. But they made the film and brought it to Toronto anyway. Good for them. I personally haven’t heard if the movie is great or crap… but I have to admit I’m curious as hell to see it.
Have any of you guys seen “The Bubble” yet? If so, what were your thoughts?
