Ben Affleck Wins Best Actor At Venice

I’ve always said here on The Movie Blog that I believe that while he picks some lousy movies to be involved with, Ben Affleck is underrated as an actor. All his stupid Beniffer publicity a while ago didn’t help matters… and the fact that he took Jennifer Garner off the market is something I’ll never forgive him for. But still… I’ve always thought the man could act.

His new film “Hollywoodland” has been getting great buzz… and now Ben Affleck is the recipient of the Coppa Volpi, the award for Best Actor for his role in the film. Here is what some critics are saying:

In his generous spirit toward a forgotten icon, Affleck turns the death-obsessed Hollywoodland into, of all things, a film about resurrection.
Peter Travers – Rolling Stone

Ben Affleck is the Comeback Actor of the Year! … Affleck has revived his career with a brilliant performance that should be counted among the best of the year.
Willie Waffle – WaffleMovies.com

Affleck hasn’t been this good in years — maybe ever. And his performance is just one of the highlights of this slowly engrossing mystery/thriller, which may be a little long, but which also features a terrific cast.
Jeff Vice – Deseret News

Could an Oscar nomination be in his future? It’s possible. This year hasn’t exactly been stellar so far. Personally I’d be really happy for Ben if he did. The man’s acting talent deserves a little more attention. Just my thoughts.
