The trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s new film Pan’s Labyrinth is now online… and WOW it’s gorgeous! I was totally hooked on the film before just because of del Toro, the synopsis and the poster… now they’ve really got me in their back pocket.
The images in the Pan’s Labyrinth trailer have so much wonder to them. Beautifully lit and composed. For those of you unfamiliar with this film, here’s a brief synopsis:
“Pan’s Labyrinth” is the story of a young girl that travels with her mother and adoptive father to a rural area up North in Spain, 1944. After Franco´s victory. The girl lives in an imaginary world of her own creation and faces the real world with much chagrin. Post-war Fascist repression is at its height in rural Spain and the girl must come to terms with that through a fable of her own.
In talking with Mike Mignola (the creator of Hellboy) this past weekend, Mike said that Pan’s Labyrinth is at least “twice as good as anything Guillermo has ever done before”. Wow… that’s high praise.
