Kevin Smith To Do Horror

I’ve said this before, but I’m not that huge of a Kevin Smith fan as a filmmaker… but I am a fan of Kevin Smth the personality. I think the guy is terrific, and I just fell in love with Clerks 2. To me, it is THE comedy of the year so far (Far better than Talladega Nights), but we’re yet to see Borat… so it’s premature to call it the comedy of the year.

But now it looks like Smith is getting ready to move his career in a different direction. A horror film. The guys over at CinemaBlend give us this:

The big question for Smith was “what’s next?” This is something everyone’s been waiting for since Clerks II hit theaters. Previously Smith was attached to work on Fletch Won and The Green Hornet, both projects Smith confirmed he is no longer a part of. So what is next for the director? What was established over a game of rock/paper/scissors is that the director will be making a horror/slasher flick. An interesting move for a director who has maintained a safe environment in dramatic comedy until now.

This will be interesting to see. Kevin’s strength is getting the audience (at least HIS audience) to associate with his characters on screen. We all know these characters. For me, I’m Dante and Doug is Graves. I can’t even begin to tell you how many of mine and Doug’s conversations were used in that movie.

So if association is his strength… I wonder how well that could be used in a horror flick. Time will tell.
