Ewan McGregor and Michael Bay do Sci-Fi?

Well, it’s certainly not a predictable match but it looks to be the case … Ewan McGregor has signed on to star in sci-fi flick The Island, to be directed by Michael Bay. Bay’s one of those guys who can either dazzle me with his technique – that Hummer chase in The Rock still blows the mind, as do any number of sequences in Bad Boys 2 – or can just make me mental with his inane dialogue and paper thin ‘philosophy’ – i.e. most of Armageddon – so here’s hoping that the always solid McGregor ups the intelligence quotient here a bit without drawing away from Bay’s ‘Hey, look what cool trick I can do’ factor. Not much has been said about the plot of the film yet, but it sounds like it’s fairly strongly derived from Huxley’s Brave New World with McGregor starring as a bio-engineered and ‘harvested’ being trying to escape from a man-made utopia.
