Hellboy 2 Gets A Studio

Chark sent me the heads up that Hellboy 2, the movie needing a studio, has finally found that studio! Universal. The folks over at Variety Magazine give us the following:

Universal Pictures will fully finance and distribute “Hellboy 2,” the Guillermo del Toro-directed sequel to the 2004 Dark Horse Comic-spawned film. Studio picks up a project orphaned by Revolution Studios, which made the original and distributed through its deal at Columbia Pictures

To me this is WONDERFUL news. Guillermo del Toro has basically been saying he’s ready to rock with it, script he loves and all the cast are ready to jump back on board… but they’ve been stuck in the mud. I loved the first Hellboy flick and can’t wait to see what they do with a second.

This has been one of those rare projects where news has been regularly coming out about it (Like Abe Sapien’s larger role in the next one) without actually having a studio to produce it. But come on… we all knew it would get picked up. Glad it was sooner rather than later.

Now… all they have to do is change that title “The Golden Army” that we’ve been hearing about. Might as well call it “Live Free or Hell Boy”.
