Movies are a fantasy world. Even when dealing with true stories or modern subject matter, there is a separation between the movies and reality. But sometimes, the line between movies and reality get erased and some drastic measures are needed. For example, the new film titled “The Kite Runner“. The 12 year old stars of the movie have to be evacuated out of Afghanistan before the movie opens. Yahoo News gives us this:
The U.S. release of the film, based on the best-selling novel by Khaled Hosseini, has been delayed by six weeks to December 14 to ensure the 12-year-old Afghan boys are out of harm’s way by then, an executive for Paramount Vantage said on Thursday. The extraordinary precautions follow months of shuttle diplomacy and other preparations by the film studio to address concerns about the film’s depiction of one boy’s rape and other scenes of conflict between rival Pashtun and Hazara tribes. Worries about the well-being of the young actors have escalated as the level of security in Afghanistan has deteriorated in the months since the film was cast and shot.
Yikes! It’s sad that we live in a world where what one does on a movie or television screen can put you in actual peril in real life. But such is the world we live in I suppose. Hey George W… hows that whole “We’re brining freedom and stability to the people of Afghanistan” thing working out?
